As we go into 2025, it's time to start thinking how to get ahead in your DJ career next year.
I have been in this business for almost 15 years now, and following trends and themes on the business and industry side always work to your advantage.
Here are the 3 major trends going into next year I think will play out more and present a lot of opportunities for artists that capitalize on them.
1. AI music production tools. This one is a no brainer, but the producers that stay ahead of the curve with AI will benefit huge next year. As upcoming producers, access to top quality vocalists can be difficult. AI is narrowing that gap already. These tools are improving week to week at a crazy speed. I would get ahead of this trend and practice trying to make the best vocals with AI. Vocals are the difference in hit songs almost all the time.
Use this to your advantage, play with all of it and learn it. Some AI vocal tool recommendations: Suno, Audimee, Replay, Kits.AI
2. Long form content. I think into year year short form content will be even more oversaturated and artists that put time into longer form content will have an edge in building loyal fanbases. Short form content is getting increasingly harder to compete in. Platforms like youtube still have great algorithms that favor people that put in time and effort into their videos. I truly believe the artists that spend time creating content there will have an easier time building a dedicated fanbase. I know this trend is already happening because I have seen DJs like Fisher and John Summit start vlogs and spend time on youtube the last few months. James Hype basically built his entire career on youtube so goes to show how beneficial long form content still is.
3. Intimate pop-up events and experiences. Night life club culture has been seeming to slow down amongst younger Gen Zs. I have seen many legendary clubs close down since 2020. I think the new wave of fans is enjoying things like pop ups in cool locations and underground raves. Artists like Fred Again doing surprise live sets by a cafe on the river or promoters like Brownies and Lemonade in LA that text blast their list and have everyone show up to Dave and Busters for a DNB set, this creates magic moments for super fans.
This is great because it makes the barrier for entry easier for new artists. You can now post to your followers to come to a surprise set anywhere now and build a genuine relationship with them. You don't need to worry about getting a slot at the big club in town anymore to build your fan base, those days are gone. Take advantage of this as a new artist you have the power.
One of the common themes I talk about in these newsletters is staying ahead of the trends. I think it's one of the easiest things you can do that yield the best results for your music career.
