AI has already been a huge game changer for producers and DJs.
I'm just going to jump straight into it today and tell you guys how I have been writing bangin club vocals and pre-drops for my tunes with AI. (I made a short video here too explaining my process as well!)
1. Write your lines, then record them and export dry. I use nothing but autotune and a compressor. The drier the takes are, better the AI can process it. You don't want reverb and delay. Do multiple takes and export them. Sometimes different takes can sound better than others in the AI. Also remember the AI can't fix your songwriting, so really focus on building the skill of writing good hooks too. A good pre-drop can make a dance song.
2. Drop the takes into your AI software of choice and select a model. For my software I am using a free software called Replay. For the model, I always try a few different ones. There is a lot of trial and error here, some sound better than others depending on the data it's been trained with and the words you are saying. My suggestion is to experiment as much as you can. I've downloaded about 50 models but only use like 2-3 consistently.
3. Put the new AI vocals back into your DAW then begin processing them again. AI vocals definitely do not sound as high quality as real vocals, so you have to do more work in processing to bring them up to par. My chain is usually something like this: Compressor > EQ low cut > Serum FX hyper dimension > OTT > Reverb/delay chain > EQ as needed again or brighten. I also may put another vocal bus on the entire group depending. This part can be tricky so make sure you have the right plugins. I find the most important one in this chain is actually the Serum FX hyper dimension, it gives the worse quality AI vocals a bit more body to them, don't make them too wide though. I also pitch them up or down sometimes as well to mask the model I am using.
If you guys need a video recap, I made a short video explaining the process as well using my new song as an example.
Have fun! The ability to create amazing vocals like this is such a huge win for producers, especially if you do not have access to singers. Enjoy, see ya next week!
