The music industry has evolved like crazy since 2020 when short form content became the main way artists get their big break.
After studying several of the new DJs breaking out in the last year, I want to pin point and break down exactly what they are all doing for you guys.
The old model of becoming a world touring DJ previously was based on 'getting signed' to the big label and getting DJs to play your records out, then building from there organically.
This still is helpful and can work, but it NOT the main way the new wave of DJs are breaking out.
The new wave of DJs going viral in the last year are doing this: Creating moments themselves for a song and showcasing it on social media.
The new era of DJs isn't concerned with getting signed to the big label, they are just taking their music and setting up 'moments' with their songs and making compelling content.
Here's an example, I came across the DJs Sidequest the last 2 years. These guys just got their friends together and filmed a bunch of live sets on youtube. They created FUN moments with their friends, then clipped them into hundreds of pieces of short form content. Many of which received millions of views.
Zero big labels involved, just fans connecting with the moments these guys set up with their friends. Then the content is compelling enough that fans see the fun moments and want to go see them live.
The days of having to have industry connections and being signed is over.
It is as simple as the following now:
1. Make some good tunes
2. Find a way to create a moment with it for socials (record live set with friends, etc.)
3. Post and showcase the moments in a compelling fun way
4. Repeat.
This is ALL it takes to build an organic audience and fanbase online now. Don't over think it!
