In one of the most famous business books of all time "Think and Grow Rich" from 1937, readers are introduced to the power of collaboration and collective intelligence in the 10th chapter. The master mind.
The author Napoleon Hill emphasizes that no individual achieves success alone; rather, it's through the synergy of minds working towards a common goal.
It is no doubt that some of the most prolific dance music artists were able to make huge impacts from the group dynamic and positioning themselves in a crew of collaborators even as solo artists.
The Swedish House Mafia
Fred Again, Skrillex, Four Tet
Kayzo, NGHTMRE, Marshmello, OOKAY
ISOxo, Knock2, RemK, Frosttop
Avicii in the old Laidback Luke online forums
The list goes on from every generation or genre in DJ culture.
Back in 2010 when I was learning how to produce dance music, I found my crew. Myself, DallasK, and a trap duo called Milo and Otis. Every week in college we made music with each other til the sun came up sometimes. We started a nightlife event and DJ'd together. We did a LOT together. This collective group effort allowed us to trailblaze in our hometown faster than normal and we all found our own success in different ways.
This type of collaborative group dynamic when thinking about your artist career is one of the most underutilized and high performance career moves you can make.
It's pretty simple, find a crew of likeminded peers, and make music with them regularly. Do everything music career related together regularly too. The collaborative efforts always compound into something better.
You learn twice as fast and avoid mistakes twice as fast. Even if you live somewhere remote or don't know any producers, there are online dance music communities.
I am really proud of our newsletter community these days and I plan on creating a more interactive community very soon to get this exact 'Master Mind' vibe that have helped so many artists get succesful. See ya guys soon!
