To recap the twitter thread:
1. Newer producers focus too much on plugins/technical stuff/new toys sometimes, but it’s the unique song ideas, vocal hooks, and catchy melodies that really move the needle. IMO your time is better spent on crate digging for inspiration or cool samples than the newest mixing/mastering technique.
2. Adapting new trends fast in social media/marketing and being first to figure out new platforms is extremely helpful when building your artist brand. See something new? TRY IT. The landscape changes fast and being a good content creator is a must these days.
3. Music genres are always cyclical, old sounds come back in new ways and the new hot trend can fade quickly. Thinking about this when planning your artist project is totally fine! Pivoting your sound at the right time and looking forward is important. You can always put your own style on new things.
4. Learn to executive produce. Don’t try to be the hero and do everything yourself if you don’t have to. Gotta be good at working with songwriters, instrument players, vocalists, producers, engineers, collaborators, ARs at once to get the best final product you can. The music is always number 1 and sometimes it takes a whole team.
5. Don’t corner yourself into releasing music one type of way or on one label, try a bunch of different ways and labels. People consume music differently over the world so having variety in your release schedule can help you build a global audience better!
