Throughout my artist journey I have been able to create music with some of my favorite artists that have inspired me.
I learned something different from working with each of them and I want to share those valuable insights into what it takes to be a great producer.
Here's what I learned.
Tommy Trash - Tommy has been an incredible musician before he made his big dance hits. After working with him on our collab in 2014, I really learned the value of focusing on melodies. He played keyboard prior to DJing, so all of his big records like 'Reload' were purely melody driven. He really leaned into that. Since then I always prioritize good chords and catchy melodies. Musicality always helps, upping your music theory should always be a priority.
Hardwell - In 2017 I finally got the chance to work with one of the biggest DJs on the planet. After working on our collab 'Badam' together, Hardwell really taught me how to balance your tastes for something that works on the dancefloor but also has that mainstream appeal. It's a hard rope to walk to get both of those, but his edits on our song really helped give it that extra appeal. I also learned how he properly teases music in the live sets and how to build up hype for a song. So much thought and preparation goes into premiering the right ID's at the right festivals to build hype for a song. I always think about this before I play certain shows now.
Knock2 - Knock has to be one of the most talented prolific new artists out there right now. After bouncing our collab 'What's the Move' back and forth a few times, I really noticed how well he glued his song ideas together with vocals. Im not talking just about lead vocals, but specifically ad libs everywhere. Perfectly placed and selected vocal shouts throughout songs really add to the hype, flow, and human element that listeners love. Even it's just a 'yeah' shout, it really gives it that extra edge and attitude.
Hope you guys enjoyed these! -Henry
PS, if you guys liked bass house like 'What's the Move' I just dropped a new song called 'Down Like that' in the same vibe!
